Annual General Meeting of EFFAB 2012
19-20 April, Edinburgh, United Kingdom
In cooperation with the University of Edinburgh and Aviagen.
On April 19, 2012, the European Forum of Farm Animal Breeders had their Annual General Meeting at the head office of Aviagen near Edinburgh, UK. The European Forum of Farm Animal Breeders (EFFAB) is an independent European forum for farm animal reproduction and selection organisations (industry and farmer's cooperatives), including companies involved in related technologies. EFFAB coordinates the discussion between the breeding industry, public organisations, national authorities, EU legislation, development and research bodies. All major animal breeding organisations based in Europe are members of EFFAB at the moment.
Every year the members of EFFAB gather for the Annual General Meeting (AGM), where the current status of EFFAB is discussed, as well as the plans for the future. Each year the AGM is held at a different location within Europe, satellite to an interesting event or at an interesting location for EFFAB members. This year the AGM was held at Aviagen in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Also located in Edinburgh are the Scottish Agricultural College (SAC), the University of Edinburgh and the Roslin Institute, where the EADGENE_S Industry Day took place on April 20, which many EFFAB members attended.
The AGM of 2012 was the first time that EFFAB members could meet the new Director, Dawn Howard, who took over the position from Anne-Marie Neeteson from April 16, 2012. Dawn is based in Brussels, which provides a good starting point for EFFAB to move future activity towards Brussels more and more, since this is the capital of the European Union this is an essential step for a European organisation such as EFFAB.
